The multiple functions that the Xerox WorkCentre Pro 128 printer offers will first and foremost bring high-performance printing to your office. Along with the quality printing, this model has the capabilities of E-mail, Internet fax, scanning, copying and standard fax functions. When looking for a new printer for your office, it is usually a very good choice to combine other functions with the printing capabilities to save space and money. This printer with the superior WorkCentre Pro 128 Toner Cartridge will meet and exceed your needs.

The features that do save money are the EA (Emulsion Aggregation) toner, which has a long fuser life and is extremely dependable offering less waste over time. The Internet fax function of the Pro 128 printer can eliminate toll calls and therefore save money with no worries about getting a busy signal. The scanning function lets you quickly distribute documents anywhere in the world and this definitely saves money on the cost of mailings.

The function of the copier allows the two-sided copies to print automatically saving money on the cost of paper and making it better for the environment. There is a 'negative image feature' that makes the black and white background able to use less toner and save money. This model also has the stamp of approval for energy saving and carries the Energy Star Compliance rating for saving money on energy costs.

Another feather of the printer that saves money is the 'multiple-up' print capacity that puts a few pages on one sheet and in turn saves on paper costs. The delayed send feature of the Pro 128 printer is a function that will automatically save a fax and then send it at a time when the cost of using the phone is at a lower rate. The fax has a speed of 33 Kbps making the duration of the calls to send faxes much shorter in length saving on the phone bill. The JBIG Compression is 20 to 80 percent efficiency of the compression making the faxes that are sent much quicker to transmit thus effecting a savings on phone bills.

The speed that each page prints is six seconds per page meaning that less time is needed to perform printing tasks. Another feature that saves time in the office is the memory function that allows the most frequently used documents of the office to be programmed into the printer. Instead of hunting the originals of the documents every time more copies are needed, all that is needed is to pull up the document on the printer display and press print. This is a time saver.

The supplies that are consumable like the WorkCentre Pro 128 Toner Cartridge last a long time and are designed so that they can be replaced quickly with no need to wait on a service call. Another time saving feature is the transparency separators that make it possible to place dividers between pages and this creates hard copy sets ready for handout all in one operation.

The unique feature of the 'Interrupt' will make it possible for a small little copy job to print even though there is a big project in the system. The system of the printer will quickly print out valuable reports about the operation of the system like the fax mode setting, billing meters and system data.

If the print job is for a report with covers, the cover feature allows either the front or back cover to be printed on either one side or two sided or just left blank and added to the collation from another media tray. This saves time in having to pull pages and then insert by hand the covers.

Is all printing paper the same?

If you were asked, what type of paper you use for your printer, you probably wouldn't know the answer. You probably even ask, "There is more than one type of printer paper?" The answer is that there are different types of printer paper, and it would be beneficial to you as a printer owner to know when to use each type of paper. One of the most important things to consider when buying printer paper, is the weight of the paper.

If you are a person that uses your printer at home to print regular documents, presentations, and essays, then you should purchase basic bond paper. This type of paper sells in reams of 500 sheets and has a typical weight of 80-100 gsm. This is the paper that you will purchase most of the time. Buying paper that is heavier, will be more expensive, thus a waste of money. The difference between 80 and 100 gsm means the paper is heavier in weight, thus thicker.

If you want to print out certificates, menus or other important documents that need to make an impact, then you should pick heavier, or thicker, paper. If you are using your home printer, you must make sure that it can handle thicker paper. Most home and small office printers start jamming around 110-125 gsm, and this can create many problems and frustrations for the end user.

Before you begin any printing project, one of the first things that you should consider is the type of paper that you should be using. Always look at the different types of papers on sale and look for the best fit for quality as well as price. This can save you an awful lot of time, frustrations and money.

Leaving you printer on or off

Leaving your printer on depends greatly on whether you have a laser or inkjet printers. Inkjet printers waste relatively low amounts of energy. When inkjet printers are not being used, they normally go into "sleep mode." Laser printers on the other hand, use up a lot of energy whether it is on "sleep mode" or if it is actively printing something.

Leaving your inkjet printer on, uses very little power. While your inkjet printer is on, every so often the printer sends a signal to cycle the ink in the heads so that it doesn't clog. If you turn your printer off, the next time you turn it on, it will undergo a cleaning cycle which tends to waste a lot of ink. The excess ink is soaked up by the waste pad beneath the printer. When the waste pad is full, the printer ceases to function. So shutting it off actually shortens the life of the printer.

Laser printers, or printers that use toner, on the other hand work differently. They do not undergo a cleaning cycle like the inkjet, every time you turn it on. Laser printers are also large energy consumers. So I recommend that when your laser printer is not in use, turn it off.

Running your printer on Empty

Many printer owners get frustrated when they see the "low ink" light blinking on their inkjet printers. Some owners are just too "lazy" to buy a replacement ink cartridge. Whatever the reason is, some printer owners ignore this sign and just push their inkjet printers over the edge. This can bring you many problems, and end up costing you money.

The ink that flows through the print heads, functions as a lubricant and coolant for the print head nozzles so that it does not get damaged. It is very important never to attempt to print with an empty ink cartridge. The print head can burn out if the ink cartridge is not refilled or replaced on time. The damage can be seen as poor print quality that will show up as lines across the print page, blurring and light or dark patches on the page. This can eventually lead to your printer completely failing, forcing you to throw it away.

Sometimes printer owners ignore the "low ink" sign for the color ink. They think that since they print mostly black and white documents, replacing the color ink can wait. Yet, to their surprise, some color ink is used even if you only print in black or vice versa. If you printed with a color ink missing, you could destroy that print head from the friction of running without ink to lubricate it. This is why most printers won't allow you to print with a missing color ink even if you aren't using it.

If you want your printer to have a long service life, you must remember not to over work it. Treat your printer good, and it will save you from many frustrations. So always remember to replace ink cartridges as soon as they are empty.

Storing Ink Cartridges

When storing ink cartridges, there are two things that you must consider. First, is the ink cartridge still in its original sealed packaging? Second, is the ink cartridge being stored after being used for some time?

Well obviously, storing sealed ink cartridges will outlast active ink cartridges. If you are a person that buys more than one ink cartridge at a time for discounts, then you should know how to store your extra ink cartridges. Depending upon certain factors, the life of an ink cartridge varies from a few months to a couple of years. The most important factor is whether the cartridge is opened or sealed. Cartridges sealed in the original packaging and stored in a cool dry place should last up to two years. However, the cartridges must be sufficiently protected while in storage, because even a small hole in the packaging will break the seal and the ink will start to dry out.

In some cases, you might need to remove an ink cartridge from your computer and store it for reuse. Learning how to store you used ink cartridge can save you money and a lot of frustrations. It is frustrating to reinstall an expensive cartridge that you know has plenty of ink left inside only to find that the print head where the ink comes out has dried up. You're left with a useless cartridge that is full of expensive ink that you can't use. There are several steps that you can take to prevent these ink cartridges from drying up:

1.	Place the used printer ink cartridge into a zip-sealed bag, and if you have more
than one ink cartridge to store, use a separate bag for each cartridge.

2.	Wet a sponge or small towel and squeeze out the excess water so the sponge or towel is left
damp but not dripping.

3.	Add the sponge or towel to the plastic bag holding the printer ink cartridge.

4.	Once you place the humid sponge and the ink cartridge inside, seal the bag.

5.	Store the sealed bag in a dark, cool place until you are ready to reinstall the printer ink
cartridge and continue using it.

REMANUFACTURED CARTRIDGES - Should I try them out?

As most of us know, computers are becoming more and more important as the years pass. Most people have a computer and a printer at home. Buying a printer is not just a onetime expense. A lot of money is needed to maintain that printer working and full of one important thing: ink or toner. Buying ink cartridges has become such an expensive necessity, that most printer owners are turning to buying remanufactured cartridges.

Remanufactured cartridges are rebuilt from used empty cartridges. The remanufacturing process is not just about refilling the cartridges, but involves taking the ink and toner cartridge apart, repairing it,and using new parts if needed, and then they are refilled with ink.

Some companies actually maintain high quality standards during the remanufacturing process so that the quality of the ink and any replaced part is the same as the (OEM) quality. These cartridges are even tested real time, to make sure that they are capable of producing quality prints.

Good quality remanufactured toner and ink cartridges are becoming more and more common. According to some, remanufactured toner cartridges can actually exceed OEM cartridges in quality and yield. Testing and R&D have enabled this industry to produce cartridges that will not only save the customer money, but also provide a better product. Usually, remanufactured ink and toner cartridges are anywhere from 35% to 70% cheaper then OEM ink and toner cartridges.

But like everything else, there are always two sides to the story. Just like there are some people who have amazing and positive experiences with remanufactured ink cartridges, some people have negative experiences. Some people complain about the poor quality of the ink. In some cases, consumers have complained about the ink rubbing off easily after printing with a remanufactured cartridge.

Most printer manufacturers make their (OEM) cartridges so that they perfectly match their printers. This is the most expensive option, yet the best option. Ninety-nine percent of the time, brand name printer replacement cartridges do not receive any type of complaints because they are made especially for that certain type of printer. For some consumers this may be the only option if they purchase a printer that has embedded computer chips inside the ink cartridge. The purpose of this is to regulate the ink, limit the cartridge to a certain amount of pages, or to keep the cartridge aligned. However if you use a compatible or remanufactured ink cartridge and it can't communicate with your printer, your printer won't recognize the cartridge and it may damage the printer. One important thing that you must consider is, that if you have a warranty on your printer, make sure the warranty is not violated when you use a remanufactured ink or toner cartridge, because if the remanufactured cartridge breaks your printer, the company's warranty might not cover your machine.

Types of Photo Paper

You have just bought a brand new photo printer, so you can print your pictures at home. When it comes time to buy the actual photo paper you find out there is more than one type of photo paper. Now, the average consumer will not know what the difference between each type of photo paper is. So here a little information on photo paper that you might find helpful.

First of all you must be sure to buy the correct photo paper for your printer. You can reduce your choices among the different photo papers by looking at photo paper that match the make and model of the printer that you are using. Because every photo printer is tuned and calibrated to perform best with paper and ink that are made specifically to matched it, be sure that the name and model number of your printer is on the package of paper that you buy, or else the quality of your printed pictures may be very low. If you want to have top notch prints, it is recommended that you stick with paper that is sold under the same brand name as your printer and is designated as appropriate for your particular model. While generic paper brands are usually less expensive than the brand names, they might not produce as high of quality prints.

Secondly, what type of paper should you buy: glossy, semi-glossy or matte photo paper? Glossy paper produces a slick, shiny print, similar to your everyday photos. Semi-glossy is less shiny, but still has a smooth look. Matte has no shine at all, which some people feel gives their photos a more artsy look. Also, you can sometimes use canvas-like paper. It's expensive, but done right, canvas prints can look like fine oil paintings.

Finally, the weight of the photo paper is also important when selecting photo paper. When you see "heavy weight" or "medium weight" on a package of paper that refers to how thick the sheets are. Heavier is thicker, which gives a more substantial, and professional, feel to your photos; however, the heavier the paper, the more expensive it will be. You should also make sure that your printer can handle thick photo paper.Photo papers for more critical work are thicker and have advanced coatings, sometimes with quick-drying properties. They can normally only be printed on one side, because only one side has the special coating. There are a few papers suitable for double-sided printing.

Stranded - Running out of toner in the middle of an important job

This is a scenario that has or will occur to most people with a laser printer. They are in the process of completing an important document, and just when they are about to print the document, the "low toner" light on their laser printer starts blinking. They try to print the document, ignoring the warning, but the letters on the document are so pale, they can hardly read them. All the stores close to your home are closed and ordering the toner online will take a few days to arrive to your home. You have to get this document printed right away. What do you do?

The answer to this question may surprise you. It's a little trick that only a few people know. This little trick has saved me from frustrations many times. The answer is: shake it. If your laser printer is low in toner, and the pages are coming out with light spots or with missed areas, don't panic. Just open your printer up and remove the toner cartridge from the printer. Once you have removed the toner cartridge, shake it back and forth a few times. Then carefully inserted back into your laser printer and this will allow you to get another 50 pages or so out of the same cartridge. When it starts getting light again, shake it one more time and you should probably get another 20 pages. By shaking the toner cartridge, you are bringing to the top all the toner that is lying on the bottom of the cartridge.

Now this is a trick that should only be done during emergencies. I do not recommend doing this on a regular basis. Running your printer on a dry toner cartridge is not recommended, and can end up being detrimental to your printer. Every time the "low toner" light on your printer starts blinking you should order a toner cartridge Online. This way you are ensuring your printer a long and healthy life.

Making your ink cartridge last longer

Ink cartridges are expensive necessities for all those printer owners. If you are not careful, buying ink cartridges can make a hole in your pocket. To make it more economical and affordable, you need to follow a few steps that can help you minimize your monthly expense on buying ink cartridges for regular use. Please take a moment to read the following tips on making your ink cartridge last longer:

1. Use color ink as when needed

The majority of documents that you print are in black and white. Before you print a document make sure that the printing settings read "Black and White Document"

2. Determining printing purpose

Before printing a document make sure that you know and understand what you want to print. There can be a group of graphics on the document that you might not need to print out. Doing this on a regular basis can dramatically extend the life of your ink cartridge.

3. Not too hot and not too cold

The ink inside ink cartridges is very sensible to temperature changes. If the temperature is either to cold or too hot, the ink can dry up easily.

4. Using your printer constantly

Using your ink constantly prevents the ink from drying up, because it keeps the ink moving.

5. Printer Settings

If you are printing a general document, you should always set your printer settings to draft. Less ink is used up when the printer is put in this setting.

6. Print Preview

Print preview function is a useful feature that can help you in giving a preview of how the document will look like after been printed. Use this feature to organize your document before printing it out. This can help in reducing the amount of times that you print your document for revisions.

7. Keep inkjet printers on

Every time an inkjet printer is turned on and activated it undergoes a process that uses up ink. If you keep your printer on, you are saving ink. Don't worry about the electric bill either, since inkjets are the most economical printing devices, in terms of power consumption.
