One of the many ways you can make money as a photographer is to specialize on events. Weddings, christenings, and lots of other events where people create memories can be well paid business. The great thing is that all you need is a great camera, lots of memory, and a stack of business cards.

What to do

You must be careful what events to cover if you want to make money. Only where people want to retain memories will it be worth your while.

One idea is to go to kids sports events. Get permission from the coach to click pics for the parents watching and then start clicking away. If you turn up with a great big telephoto lens like the ones used for pro coverage of events, you will be taken seriously. Make sure you get all the kids doing great action shots and then hand out flyers to all the parents watching with your web address. If you can write down the parents email address so you can email them the URL of you site then upload the pics to your web site that day and email everyone. If you have a simple shopping cart set up you can make money in a few hours as people pop in to see the pics and buy them for $20 or more a pop.

You can do a similar thing with weddings. Take all the normal pictures as part of the wedding coverage but then get your URL printed on the wedding invites and all the other wedding materials and also get an email list of all the wedding guests, offer the couple a nice 20% discount for doing this and then take lots of extra pics at the wedding of the guests doing all the things they do. Upload all the pics to your site and send the emails. You will then make a lot more money than the 20% discount it cost you because then 30 or 40 people will be also purchasing your pics at $20 or more a shot straight from your site. Charging a higher price for high res pics is also a great money spinner.

The trick is to find a niche where you can excel by being the best photographer in the room, and offering an easy way for people to buy your photos.

Dog shows, fashion shows, horse shows, car shows, livestock competitions, rock shows, - the list goes on. Keep your eye out in the events section of your local paper to see what is happening. Always ask for permission to shoot pics and if you need to offer the people 10% of the income if feel you need to so you can get easy access.

Why do so many people who are looking for state-of-the-art performance digital cameras with masses of complicated features buy CoolPix P90 cameras? It's because, despite its bitty size and affordable price tag, these cameras get the activity done. The P90 ticket, these cameras get the Nikon CoolPix Performance Series after all. And it decidedly performs, sometimes above and beyond what you might foresee. There was a time when, in order to get a camera with the features you needed to produce near professional quality pictures, you had to sacrifice something, namely compact size. But the P90 has a lot of effectiveness packed into a small, streamlined package.

One of the primary reasons serious photography enthusiasts buy CoolPix P90 digital cameras is the telephoto lens. Before the P90 came along, cameras this humble just didn't have telephoto lenses. In order to appreciate the benefits of that feature, you had to accept that you would be heftying around a camera that was a little bulkier and more cumbersome than you liked. Then along came the P90, which Nikon called "The World's Most Compact Super-telephoto Camera." And it wasn't advertising magic. In fact, the P90 is equipped with an'x Optical Wide-Angle Zoom NIKKOR Lens. Pretty inspiring considering the camera's size. With this lens, you can capture everything from the sweeping grandeur of the Grand Canyon, to a bee setting advertising. In reality, the petal of a flower.

Another one of this camera's extensive features is Optical Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization. Which basically means the camera compensates for shaky or unstable conditions. More than one great photo has been ruined because the photography was jostled by something. Maybe they were in a truck driving over shoddy roads, or on a boat sailing on choppy waters. Whatever the cause, the shakiness can result in blurry, unfocussed artwork. But thanks to Nikon's VR system, the pictures you take on your next boat trip will be crisp, ruined as the waters are a little choppy.

The P90 has many advantages over widely used cameras. And one of them is that it can do more than take great pictures. It can also put on tape home movies. Imagine it. You are at your annual family picnic, taking pictures of the festivities when, suddenly, the kids at the picnic start to dance. It's a moment you just crisp, clear And while taking some pictures would the waters are a great way to do that, you can do even better. So you aim your camera and press record. And, just like that, you aren't just taking snapshots, you are filming a home movie, complete with sound. Later, all you have to do is connect your camera to your television set, and you can relive that moment as many times as you want.

And those are just to dance. It's a few of the great features those who buy CoolPix P90 cameras can rejoice in. In fact, photography buffs will find that discovering each new feature, and learning to use it to its fullest, is part of the joy of owning this exceptional camera.

Every business has its important events, like the inauguration of a new office, or the announcement of new leadership. The happenings of most of these occasions need to be distributed to the employees as well as the media, for which you need photographs. Capturing of these pictures requires corporate photographers.

Photography for an event is a completely different skill, as compared to other forms of this art like landscape photography or fashion photography. This is basically because events happen fast and the photographer has no say in the happenings. The task involved in capturing an event requires know-how and a professional attitude on part of the photographer and not everyone can do a good job at it. Most importantly, there are no retakes for a corporate photographer.

You need to keep various factors in mind while choosing a corporate photographer for an important company event. He must have a lot of precision and good knowledge of light settings for the camera, as most company events take place indoors. Even a very good photographer would be of little use if the camera and lenses are not of good quality, so you must insist on top-end equipment.

It is very important to engage an experienced event photographer from an established company. You can ask the photographer whether he has worked on such events before to make sure that he will be capable of handling the situation well. A professional firm should also be able to offer you client references of past work.

Once you have chosen a photographer, discuss the details of the project with him and make your needs clear. This will ensure that there is no communication gap and will also give you assurance in the photographer's capability of managing tough situations during the event. There is nothing like a good discussion to put the photographer at ease, and this way you would also be able to build a good working relationship with your event photographer.

Night Photos Taking - Why is the Photo Quality So Low?

The majority of photographers today utilize a sophisticated point-and shoot camera for all their photography needs. And, like most, it is probably manufactured by Canon, Samsung and Sony and features many technical advances including a high megapixel count.

With all this technology at your disposal, you may well be puzzled and disappointed when you try to take a photo in low light conditions, like at night or indoors away from windows. You may have found that photos you take at night come out either blurry, horribly washed out by the flash, grainy/noisy, lacking in color, or all of the above.

So what is the reason? Every camera is capable of taking clear, concise photos during optimum lighting such as outdoors in the middle of the day. However, it is very difficult for a camera to determine what you see in low light conditions. The main reason or this is that a cameras shutter must stay open longer in order to ensure a bright enough light to take the photo. In addition, it is nearly impossible to hold a camera completely steady therefore causing your photos to be blurry. To compensate for this, you could use flash, although this tends to give people an unnatural complexion or use ISO which unfortunately can add 'digital noise' to your photos.

So this is the problem...but what is the solution? Here are a couple of tips to improve your low-light photography:

1) When you purchase a camera, ensure it is equipped with an 'optical image stabilization' feature. This technology refers to a sensor inside the camera that will compensate for any movement from the person holding the camera and correct it to make sure you have a quality photo.

2) Try turning off the flash and asking your subjects to remain very still. Have your subjects move nearer to you in low-light or simply play around with your cameras Night Mode setting in the menu. It is important to remember that in Night ode, you must remain very still.

3) For non-moving subjects such as buildings, try using a tabletop tripod. These work wonderfully and are very easy and compact to carry around. However, if you are in a bind, a tree or lamppost can also be utilized to stabilize your camera.

Top Tips For Taking Food Photos

Taking food photos is an artform. It takes a lot of experience to get it right. Non-the-less here are some simple tips to help.

Light

Light is obviously the tool of a photographer second to the camera itself. Getting this right is always the trick with any kind of photography. With food photography though it is super important. Get it wrong and no amount of photoshop work will bring the picture to life.

Using Props

With food photography props often save the day. The reason restaurants use big and fancy plates to serve food on is because we eat first with our eyes! Choosing the right props for a food shot is imperative. Get it right - masterpiece. Get it wrong - roll up your sleeves and start again.

If you do a lot of food photography then shopping at second hand markets can be a great way to build your box of props. You can pick up expensive items like large pots and dishes and vases for a few dollars and a smile. If you do not do much then you may have to go shopping for what you need and bill the client!

Quickness

If you are a slow-coach perfectionist then food photography may be hard for your to master. Like master chefs that throw masterpieces dishes together in minutes master food photographers capture the essence in minutes too. Be quick else it will be a mess is the thing to remember with food photography. As soon as food warms or cools it droops, melts, discolours and a whole range of other things. Be ready with all the lighting and use placeholder items such as places to get the lighting right. Once the food is there you should be shooting.

Way to improve your food photographs

One simple way is to simply use a light high quality vegetable oil and brush it on the food! This will create a high quality shiny finish that we love to see on food.

Get to know the chef

You will usually be working with a food professional be it a stylist or chef. Hopefully you are not on a low budget shoot and have to do the displays yourself.

Take a few minutes before the shoot to talk with the chef and ask them how they like to work. Ask them if there is anything you need to know about the food that may not be obvious. If nothing else this will make them feel good so you will then be able to work closer and better together.

How To Get Unique Wedding Photography

Not all wedding photos need to look the same (though after you've looked through the gallery of the umpteenth wedding photographer, it might seem like it).

You can get unique wedding photography by 1) choosing the right photographer and 2) making sure your voice is heard by that photographer.

The first tenet is vital, though admittedly less important than the second. The thing is, there's a bit of a catch here: Your voice probably won't be heard if you don't choose the right person that will give you the type of unique wedding photography you want. So how do you find the perfect, unique photographer for you?

Research! It can't be said enough - the only way you're going to find the right photographer is by weeding through the hundreds (or even thousands, depending on where you live) of photographers offering their services in your area. Finding the person with the right style and flair takes a little bit of work. Search through online galleries and ask for referrals both online and from friends or colleagues.

Once you've narrowed it down to a few choices, meet with them in person. Bring your fiance along and see how the three of you click. The end results will be a lot better if everyone is comfortable with each other. During your in-person meeting, ask the photographer how much input the couple has in selecting where and how photos are taken. This will establish right off the bat that you have a desire for unique wedding photographs that you had some say in.

A lot of unique wedding photography is special because there are special effects added either while shooting (special lenses or settings) or during the editing process (Photoshop is a blessing!) If this might be something you desire, inquire about their knowledge of such techniques and ask to see samples. Remember that too many special effects can be overkill and you'll want some regular shots, too, so your photographer should be skilled in both.

Once you've selected a photographer, don't be afraid to let him or her know what you want! Many couples have unique interests or backgrounds that should be highlighted in the photography of their big day. For example, if you two have a passion for motorcycles, ask for a shot of the two of you dressed in your wedding best on the back of your bike. Now there's a unique wedding photo you don't see every day! From props to locations, there's plenty of ways to capture weddings uniquely.

Many brides are afraid to speak up because they assume their photographer knows best. Assuredly, your photographer knows what they're doing - they went professional for a reason. But don't hesitate to let your voice be heard in order to get the unique wedding photography you want.

For those people who love to take a dip in the sea, a waterproof camera is a great idea. It is a way of capturing memories and moments so that they are remembered. It also allows those around you who are landlubbers to see what they are missing!

The design, style and power of the waterproof camera varies incredibly. You will find that they range from those that are designed for infrequent use to cameras that can be used on a day-to-day basis. Many manufacturers still make waterproof cameras that are disposable which are superb for that once in a lifetime vacation. There are even waterproof cameras that are aimed specifically at children so they can start capturing their memories early too.

The price you will pay for a camera will be between $20 and $500. It is recommended that you find one that is sturdy enough to last your for many years. If you are looking to purchase a digital model, you may have to pay a bit more for it; a high quality digital waterproof camera may cost as much as $1,000. It is unlikely you will want to pay as much as this unless you are starting a career as a professional photographer or intend to take it up as a serious hobby. Even the cameras that cost less than this still give great results.

So how do you choose the right waterproof camera for you? Well, you need to firstly establish how often you will use it and the reason for using this kind of equipment. It is then best to decide what kind of functions you would like the equipment to have. A decision needs to be made as to whether you prefer a camera that takes film or a digital model. Then you need to decide how much you are willing to spend on the equipment.

Once you have made your choices, you can then begin your search for the right camera for your needs. If you are considering going for the digital models, then it is recommended that you research the products by way of reading waterproof digital camera reviews. The waterproof digital camera reviews can be found on many websites and forums that are passionate about photography. The digital apparatus has been tried out and rated, so you will have a fair idea of what models to look for.

Once all the waterproof digital camera reviews have been read, you can choose your favorite and order it online. Many retailers have this facility and the ordering process is speedy and straightforward. Often the camera is delivered to your doorstop within a matter of days.

Once you have your camera, it is essential that you maintain it. This will mean that you will get the best out of the item and it will last you for a lifetime. If possible, always rinse the camera with fresh water once you have come out of the sea. This prevents the salt crystals from causing any unnecessary damage to the camera. Look out for dirt, grit and sand as these can also damage the camera and render it useless. If the camera is going to be out of action for a while, remember to remove the batteries to prevent leakage into it.

Owning a waterproof camera adds a spark to any activity near or in the sea. You can spend hours enjoying and creating special snaps that will help you remember your love affair with the water for the rest of your life.

How To Pick, Pack and Perfect your Destination Wedding Dress

Could it really be that easy? It's true - looking your best in your destination wedding dress is as easy as three Ps. Pick, pack and perfect the dress, and you'll look fabulous in your chosen wedding location.

Picking. Often, a destination wedding dress is going to be more informal than a typical princess wedding dress. This isn't always the case, though, especially if your "destination wedding" is being planned in your hometown that you live three to four hours away from.

When choosing your dress for a destination wedding, take into account the climate you're getting married in. A tropical beach wedding calls for a more casual dress in a light-weight material - after all, you don't want sweat marks on your white dress! Choose a thin fabric such as chiffon, charmuese or organza.

A tropical beach wedding is one of the more appropriate times to choose a sexier wedding dress, too. When the location is exotic and sexy itself, no one can fault a bride for tuning into that vibe and glamming up the sex appeal as well!

For an even more casual look, choose something other than a full-length gown. Not only will you not have to worry about the gown dragging in the sand, it will probably be less expensive. On the other side of things, a destination wedding dress for a cooler climate requires a cover-up if you plan to spend any time outside. A complementary shawl is your best bet.

Packing. This will be the trickiest part of the destination wedding dress debacle, but let's make one thing clear: Do not under any circumstances check your wedding dress with your baggage on a plane. Too many people lose their luggage each year for you to risk it. Most of the time, you can carry your dress in a garment bag through security and ask a flight attendant to hang it in the first-class coat cabin. Just make sure to count it as one of your allowed carry-on bags. If you can't be sure it can be hung by an attendant, fold the garment bag into a suitcase that will fit into the overhead cabin. It might be wrinkled when you get there, but at least it will be there.

You can ship a wedding dress, but there are so many risks that it could be lost, damaged or stolen that it's not really worth it. If you do decide to do this, have the bridal salon package it for you. They're used to shipping dresses when orders are placed, so they'll know the proper way to do it. All in all, driving the dress to the destination yourself is the safest bet. Unfortunately, for many destinations, that's not an option.

Perfecting. The biggest headache to contend with after successfully transporting the dress is getting the wrinkles out. If you're lucky, you can hang the dress for 24 hours and the wrinkles will fall out. If 24 hours are a luxury you don't have, pack a travel steamer and/or the name of a local dry cleaner who can give the dress a good pressing. Get a list of dry cleaners internationally at www.ifi.org.

Finally, make sure you have all the appropriate accessories to complement your gorgeous destination wedding dress! For the traditionalists, don't forget your something blue (or the six-pence in your shoe) and for those looking for something a bit funkier, glam up your gown with a sparkling hairpiece, colorful shoes or bold make-up.

Adobe Elements 7 ? Available Tools And Upgrades

If you are a seasoned Adobe software user you will definitely agree that with every new version of software that Adobe develops there is always something new. So do the new versions of Adobe software make the older versions become obsolete? Well the answer to such a question will be no, not at all you can still use your older versions of the software but only that you will be missing out from some of the new stuff that will be on offer in the newer versions.

Adobes first foray into the digitial editing arena was with Photoshop and it soon became apparent to the software developers that they also needed a ?lite? version for those who only wanted photo editing capabilities without all the bells and whistles that accompany Photoshop. Giving into this need they created Photoshop Elements which allows people to easily edit their photos without needing loads of training first.

As with most programs, Elements has been reworked a few times and Adobe is currently releasing version 7. In my opinion Adobe Elements 7 is probably the smartest version of Elements ever. With version 7 Adobe has increased the number of tools available, making it more closely resemble the professional version of Photoshop. Now, when using Photoshop Elements, you are able to edit your photos just as if you had done it professionally with the Photoshop software.

The user-interface, or desktop, is another change which makes the program more user friendly than previous versions. Now, if you are still currently using earlier versions of Adobe Elements you might be wondering what the new features include.

Included in Elements 7 is an organizer which allows you to label your images so you can easily sort and find them whenever you need them. This also enables you to be working on a variety of images simultaneously. Another new feature is the fix button. This feature gives you all of the most commonly used tools when you are editing an image. Some of the common tools you will use repeatedly include the smudge, blur and sharpen tool.

The create panel allows you to create items such as calendars, slideshows, etc. Using this feature you can take your image to the create panel and then decide on which project you would like to make. It is an incredible tool for making personalized gifts for friends and family.

For me the most impressive feature on Adobe Elements 7 is the share feature. Using this feature you can share your photo album via the Internet and social networking programs such as MySpace and Facebook. You can also easily share your photos via email or copy them to a DVD/CD.

These are just some of the new features that are in Adobe Elements 7 which make it different from the other versions.

So to begin with, you may want to take advantage of one of the many photo editing software programs that you can get free and download from the internet.

The majority of these are basic because they are free. You should not jump at the first one you come across either. It may be free but so complicated to use that you will just get frustrated and give up. This could ruin your interest in digital photography and that would be a real loss.

Do a little research into the various programs and find one that you feel will be user friendly. If there is no support for the software then you have nowhere to turn if you run into problems.

Do not just buy an editing program just because it is expensive so you figure it must be the best. There are some excellent programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS or Corel Printer. Although these are excellent programs, they are not cheap but are worth the money if you are going to use all of its features.

The best photo editing software is one that is easy to use, has enough features to let you do what you want. In addition, it has plenty of support material and is reasonably priced for what it offers.
